Update on Camden

This is Lara, Julie's sister.

Camden had his surgery this morning at 7:45. It lasted about 2 hours. He is awake and doing well. He had another arterial bleed while in the operating room and the doctors stitched the artery shut - there was no need for a transfusion or cauterization. The surgery went well and the doctors did a full thickness graft where they actually remove all the layers of the skin rather than scraping off a thin layer. This type of graft is less painful.

Camden is a little loopy and seems to be doing well. Sometimes he'll say, "Oh, ow" and "Mommy, I feel bad." He'll need to have his bandages changed every day. It's a pretty traumatic process, so he'll have morphine and Versed for each bandage change and parents aren't allowed to be with him during that time either, so it will be tough on Julie and Aaron knowing Camden is going through so much pain and they aren't there to comfort him. Camden will be in the hospital for a week.

Julie and Aaron are staying in Phoenix at our aunt and uncle's home which is vacant while they spend the summer in Utah. Family is such a blessing and I know they are grateful to have a place to call home. My parents are driving to Phoenix right now to help Julie and be there as extra hands when Aaron goes back to Tucson for work on Monday. They're also grateful to family who have helped babysit Audrey in the past few days as babies aren't allowed on the burn floor.

Some of you have asked Julie where you can send things for Camden. Here is his address at the hospital.

Camden Groff
Pediatric Burn Floor
Maricopa Medical Center
2601 E. Roosevelt
Phoenix AZ 85008

Flowers aren't allowed on the burn floor.

Please continue praying for Camden for a full recovery and no further complications with bleeding. Julie and Aaron are in positive spirits and now it's just enduring for the rest of the week.
