Coventry and Mystic, CT

While we were in Connecticut, we drove up to Coventry to visit some friends that I had met while serving a mission in London. Coventry is a beautiful little area near a lake and out in the countryside. The leaves were just beginning to change there and it was so beautiful. It was fun to see my friends again, and as luck would have it, they have two kids that are the same ages as Camden and Audrey, so it was really fun for everyone. My friend's house is in walking distance to a beautiful lake that had a park right on it. Thanks so much Lara & Dave for letting us come and see you and for feeding us dinner that night!



The following day we drove over to Mystic, CT. This is an old seaport town where the Mystic Harbor meets the Mystic River. There is a drawbridge over the river from the harbor and ships sail on through all day long. We happened to be trying to cross on foot at the moment when a ship was coming through. The drawbridge engineer sounded a loud whistle to give warning that the drawbridge was going up. Camden got really mad at me for making that loud sound. :) He got over it pretty quickly when he saw that the road was starting to go up in the air and the ship was passing through.

We went to the Mystic Seaport Museum which is an outdoor maritime museum. You can climb aboard many tall ships and explore them. There are some 19th century homes that have been preserved. There is also a large steam boat that goes up and down the Mystic River, and we had fun doing that. It was really cool to see them shovel the coal into the furnace to power the boat. Mystic was a neat place, and just in case you were wondering, yes, it is the same place as "Mystic Pizza."
